The local government in south China's island province of Hainan, is promising to come down hard on hotels and restaurants that don't offer fair prices to holiday makers. Construction will begin this year, to transform the island into an international tourist destination.

Over the May Day break, tourists enjoyed the beautiful beaches and fresh sea food in Hainan.

"The view is so beautiful and I am quite satisfied. The prices here don't rise too much. " a tourist said.

But they did during Spring festival.

Now, the local price regulator has demanded all sea food be marked with price tags and have corresponding pictures posted.

Deng Kegui, the deputy head of Industry and Commerce Bureau of Sanya city, said, "The violators will be punished seriously and they can even have the business certificates withdrawn."

According to the local price regulator, hotel fares should NOT increase 50 percent during holidays.A survey shows most hotels only raise prices by 10 percent during those periods, a much fairer deal.

Deng Xiangqian, a hotel staff of Sanya, said "We only raise 100 yuan based on our weekend fares on the normal days. "

Tourists hope the price and convenience improvements will last until at least the National Day holiday in October.
