The Double Third Festival, which falls on the third day of the third month on the lunar calendar, is a traditional festival for the Li and Miao ethnicities in Hainan Province. Falling on April 15 this year, it is also the largest cultural gala for Li and Miao minorities since the island province began its international tourism strategy.

This year, Hainan government officials selected Ledong County to host the festival in conjunction with the county's annual Banana Gala, which began in 2007 to promote its banana industry. There was dancing and singing to display the ethnic cultures.

Many government officials attended the opening ceremony, including Yang Jing, director of the National Religious Committee; Fu Yuelan, vice governor of Hainan; and Huang Jiaqi, government head of Ledong.
