Despite Hainan Province is going to develop sports lottery, Secretary of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee Wei Liucheng said it won’t compete with Macau’s gaming industry and hoped that direct air transport can be relaunched between the two places.

Wei made the remark last Friday in Hainan when meeting with Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and the Macau delegation for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2010.

Meanwhile, Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping also held a closed-door meeting with Fernando Chui Sai On and the Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam Kuen on the same day. The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2010 was held between April 9 and 11 under the theme of “Green Recovery: Asia’s Realistic Choice for Sustainable Growth”.

The opening ceremony was held on Saturday in which Xi Jinping and leaders of seven other countries delivered their own keynote speeches.

During the Friday meeting which was also attended by Governor of Hainan Province Luo Baoming, Wei Liucheng said Hainan is set to become an “international tourism/entertainment island” and also to develop sports lottery.

However, he added that it will not be against Macau’s gaming industry and he hoped that mutual cooperation in tourism can be attained by resuming direct flights between Hainan and Macau.
