Representatives from more than 50 countries and regions attended the Boao International Tourism Forum in Sanya, southern China's Hainan Province, from March 20 to 22, 2010. Among them are heads of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, World Travel & Tourism Council, and Pacific Asia Travel Association, ministers of tourism, and celebrities and entrepreneurs in the tourism, culture, sports and business circles.
Focusing on the theme "Reform on the tourism industry in the post-crisis era," participants exchanged ideas on measures and experiences of different countries in coping with the impact of the global financial crisis on the tourism industry, the new trends and prospects of the tourism industry, as well as government actions and strategies in promoting the development of tourism industry. Participants think highly of the timing and important role of the 2010 Boao International Tourism Forum.
Participants agree that tourism is the most dynamic and promising emerging industry, which can create a lot of jobs, has a high labor coefficient and product good overall benefits.
Participants agree that the Boao International Tourism Forum is a timely and fruitful international summit for the global tourism and culture industry and they all hope the forum will be held again. Their consensus is as follows:
I. Under the guidance of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, World Travel & Tourism Council, and Pacific Asia Travel Association and with government support of various countries, the Boao International Tourism Forum will be built into an international convention and exhibition brand on the principles of equality, mutual beneficial, and cooperation. The forum is expected to strengthen exchanges in the industry, promote tourism and culture, and contribute to multi-layer and multi-channel exchanges and dialogues between tourist destinations, between different governments and among enterprises.
II. Accelerating the development of tourism is of special significance in the post-financial crisis era. Participants noted that the Chinese government attaches close attention to the important role of travel industry in the development of its economy and has taken a series of policies and measures to boost the growth of the tourism industry, underlining Chinese government resolve to develop tourism as a strategic pillar industry. Participating countries and regions are willing to conduct joint research on policies and measures to promote the development of the tourism industry, take practical measures to speed up the development of tourism as a pillar industry, create good environment and conditions for the development of the industry and work together to contribute the lasting prosperity and stability of the world.
III. In view of the vulnerability of the tourism industry, the global tourism industry should establish a cooperation and development mechanism to jointly cope with the adverse impact of emergencies likes natural disasters, diseases and economic crisis on the tourism industry. The mechanism is aimed to institutionalize the cooperation platform, determine cooperation channels, and materialize cooperation fruits.
IV. Under the assistance and instruction of United Nations World Tourism Organization, World Travel & Tourism Council, Pacific Asia Travel Association and the China National Tourism Administration, the people's government of Hainan Province will undertake the responsibilities as the host of the forum, continue its efforts to organize successful forums and provide excellent facilities and services for the forum. All countries and regions are welcomed to participate in the forum on a voluntary basis.
