Officials should become less vulnerable to criticism of Hainans tourism services and motivated by negative public opinion, said Wei Liucheng, secretary of Hainan's CPC Provincial Committee, at a Boao International Tourism Forum preparatory committee meeting Sunday.
Wei said he saw many negative reports about Hainan's tourism services during the Spring Festival holiday and vowed to make improvements.
"I have said that we'll try our best to build the island into a civilized international tour destination," Wei said. "We'll be responsible, but we need more time."
This year marks the beginning of Hainan's tourism promotion project. Domestic and foreign media have reported on hotel prices facilities, services of the destinations, most of which have been critical.
