The center of Hainan Island is mountainous with a range that extends southwards in contrast to the relatively lower lying northern regions. That is Wuzhi Mountain, highest part of Hainan Island. Moreover, it is the symbol of Hainan, listed by the International Tourism Organization in recognition of its supreme natural scenery which comprises one of the few natural rain forests surviving in the world today.

Wuzhi Mountain presents a saw-toothed appearance and its shape is like five fingers, this is how the Wuzhi Mountain (Five Fingers Mountain in Chinese) got its name.

The first of the five main peaks –Yizhi Mountain (1st Finger Mountain) is like a huge pyramid with an elevation of 1,300 meters high and the top of the peak pierces the sky obliquely. The second finger is the highest, all of 1,876m. There is a natural bridge formed by a huge rock linking the two peaks. Legend says that wonderful children and fairies often play on this heavenly bridge. Both peaks are accessible and you can climb to the top for a bird's eye view of the very significant grandeur of the surroundings.

The Sanzhi Peak (3rd Finger) was the highest peak originally until it was severed by storms. This peak and two other ones are hard to climb but the effort to climb the main peaks is justly rewarded when you have the experience of riding the clouds and surmounting the mist.

The surrounding areas of Wuzhi Mountain are inhabited mainly by the Li ethnic group. You will have the chance to witness and feel something of its lifestyle, get to know their custom, appreciate their folk song and dance, and taste their special foods.
