Dongpo College was named after Su Dongpo (1037-1101), a well-known litterateur in the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Located in Zhonghe Town, in the ancient city of Danzhou, the college was built in 1098 to commemorate him. He was exiled in Hainan Island and had stayed there for three years, and during this period, Su Dongpo lived and taught literature in the place where Dongpo College is located now. He disseminated the central Chinese culture to the locals.

Comprising pavilion, terrace, tower, pool, etc, Dongpo College was constructed in traditional Chinese architectural style. Thus, it shows distinctive elegance. Besides this, it is enlivened with the greenery created by many towering trees.

Many of Su Dongpo's manuscripts, as well as his cultural relic and historical materials in Hainan are displayed in the college. Moreover, 13 poem inscriptions and other works of art from the past are also on display here.
