Opened in 1996, Hainan Museum of Ethnography is one of the largest museums in the province. It is a window on the history and culture of the indigenous Li and Miao ethnic groups as well as the Han and Hui people.
Located on Yaxu Mountain north of Wuzhishan City, the museum features a traditional Chinese rectangular courtyard, eight exhibition halls and a handicrafts shop. The buildings inside the museum are connected by a cloister and in the middle is a small garden. The greeting hall of the museum has a gigantic stone sculpture made up with 19 huge blocks of granite. It is named the First Gate of Hainan.
Tourists to the Hainan Museum of Ethnography are treated with displays of relics, folk items and historical pictures and materials illustrating the heritage and social customs of these fascinating peoples.

How to get there:
Take an express from Haikou to Tongza and get off at Mt. Wuzhi Bus Station, and then walk to the museum, which takes about 30 minutes, or you may take a coach arriving at the museum directly.
