From November 11, 2009 to November 19, 2009, the Hainan International Road Cycling Race in 2009 (海南岛国际公路自行车环岛赛) will be held in Hainan Island. Compared with the previous three events, all nine stages of this year's cycling race have been changed or adjusted, and features the following: 1429.7km - the longest one, among which only 145.9km is the highway; covering all the 18 cities and counties of Hainan Province. As usual, the Hainan Cycling Race has attracted many competitive teams and riders from all over the world, including China Marco Polo UCI Continental Cycling Team, four national teams from Denmark, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and China and Giant Asia Racing Team from Taiwan Province. Haikou Hot Air Balloon Festival (海口热气球节) was first held in 2007. It is the first hot air balloon festival for Haikou, the island province's capital. Beautifully colored and decorated hot-air balloons are seen flying toward the Qiongzhou Strait between Guangdong and Hainan provinces. The balloons flew for 10 miles of the shortest distance that the Strait stretches.

China New Silk Road Model Contest (中国新丝路模特大赛) is considered one of China's most famous modeling contest. The final round, which includes the winners of previous rounds held in different cities in China, has been held in Sanya since 2000.
