Known as the 'Kingdom of Coconuts', 'Golden Seashore', and 'Forest Park over the Sea', Dongjiao Coconut Plantation is a good choice for a holiday visit.
It is located on the eastern shore of Qinglan Port of Wenchang City, 80km from Haikou.
Dongjiao Coconut Plantation, as its name indicates, is renowned for its broad coconut plantations. It has over 500,000 coconut trees including red, green, well-bred, short, tall and other varieties. There is a saying that coconuts of Wenchang yield half of Hainan’s output and the most famous come from Dongjiao Coconut Plantation.
Coconut juice is regarded as water from the heaven by the locals, being sweet and full of nutrition. The local farmers can climb up the 20-meter high coconut tree and grab a coconut for you. It’s really a different feeling to drink the fresh coconut juice in the plantations.
Walking along the shady paths in the forest, special scenic spots provide a feast for the senses. Coconut Bayou, whose scenery is pictured on the famous series of stamps named 'Seashore Scenery', engenders a peaceful and idyllic feeling of nature. The sea is so clear and corals colorful. Various kinds of beach sports and water sports are also available.
Dongjiao is also home to a thriving fishing industry. Facilities have been established to ensure maritime safety including an ancient beacon to guide the passing boats. Since fishermen are feeding fishes here, a large number of fishes gather. Therefore, it’s very easy to catch a fish.
